Friday May 7....day 45. We went to the Johnson Family farm today, about 30 miles from Kirtland. Joseph and Emma lived here with the Johnsons for about a year after leaving the Morley farm.
The people in Kirtland were not happy about the influx of Mormons to their town, and wanted to stop Joseph Smith from teaching. They broke into the Johnson home in the middle of the night and took Joseph. He and Emma had been sleeping in this bedroom with their twins who were sick with the measles. The front door was just outside the bedroom door, and the exposure to the cold of that night air led to the death of one of the babies. The mob stripped and beat Joseph, scratched his skin, tarred and feathered him, and tried to force tar down his throat resulting in a broken tooth. It took all night to clean the tar from his body. I'm sure the men were very shocked when Joseph showed up on time for church the next day and continued his preaching.
The colors on the floor are the original colors...fancy.
Many important meetings were held here and many revelations received. God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and revealed the 76 section of the Doctrine and Covenants. All that were in the room testified of the events that took place there.
This is the Kirtland Temple. Built by the Mormon church it is now owned by the Church of Christ which broke off from the Mormon Church. It's beautiful inside and out. There is a lot of amazing woodwork inside.
This has become a familiar sight for us and usually means "home".

We passed through this little town...
We had a severe storm Friday night with a tornado watch. The winds following the storm were very strong so we waited for a lull and left very early in the morning for the Dayton area. We could feel the wind blowing against us, but we arrived at our new campground unscathed at 10:30 in the morning. They were very nice and let us check in early.
Sunday we went to church in Beavercreek, and then went to the National AirForce Museum. It was awesome, 3 huge hangers filled with history.
The Bockscar is the plane that dropped the atom bomp on Nagasaki, Japan to end WWII.

This is one of the Stealth Bombers....or the "other project" as my dad called it when he helped develop it.

Monday, May 10 we left Ohio and drove through Indiana...

It looks a lot like Ohio, which looks a lot like New York, which looks a lot like Pennsylvania, which...you get the idea... lots of trees and green. Sorry, bad picture.

We drove into Illinois and are staying in Effingham. We came here to visit our dear freinds Andy and Inge Soviak.

When we got there Inge handed me this flower basket. She is sweet that way, so I started to thank her for thinking of me... She said "Oh, read the card, your kids did this." I was very surprised. She said the delivery man came to the door and said " I know this is not you...but do you know someone named Cindy?" My kids amaze me sometimes. I love them and would trade these flowers for a hug from each of them....

We rested for a little while, had some lunch and then drove to my cousin's house. We had lost all contact with my mother's side of the family years ago, then I found my cousin while working on my Family history through Ancestry.com. We met Jeff, his wife Connie and 2 of his sons, Joshua, and Jason and their wives. Jeff went and picked up his brother Mike. We had a great visit. Unfortunately we didn't think to get the camera out.
