Today we went to see the Belle Meade Mansion in Nashville. It is a beautiful home owned by the Jackson family in the 1800's...no relation to Pres. Jackson. They did not allow any photography inside, so we bought postcards and sent them to our Grand daughters.
At the Belle Meade plantation they raised Race horses. They kept as many as 176 slaves to help care for the plantation and the horses. This is one of the slave homes, it housed up to 20 slaves in each side of the building.
This is President Andrew Jackson's mansion. He owned 1140 acres and raised corn, cotton, and now soybeans. Part of it is being repaired...notice the fence.
The grounds at both mansions were enourmous and beautiful. The rooms in the house were large, and I loved the furnishings.
It has been a very tiring day. But we have met people from all over the United States, and everyone has been so nice. The people from Nashville treat you like family, with warm greetings and they show an interest in everyone. We still love the southern accents.
