We rode the subway!
Got up this morning and caught the bus at the front of the campground, rode to the Metro station and took the subway to Arlington. It was fun....and crowded.
I don't even have words to describe the feeling of being at Arlington National Cemetary.
It made me feel sad, and proud, and thankful, and so many things.
There is a section here for members of the armed services from every war...back to the Revolutionary War.
At the tomb of the unknown soldier, there is a guard on duty 24/7 every day of the year. We got to see the changing of the guard. They change the guard every 30 minutes, and it takes about 10 minutes for the change to take place. It was awesome to watch.
George Washington Custis was the grandson of Martha Washington. He owned the property that Arlington sits on today, and lived there for years. His daughter married General Robert E. Lee and they raised their family there.
The Arlington house is at the top of Arlington, and the view was breath taking. We could see the Capital, the Pentagon, and most of the buildings and monuments in Washington.
Our first stop after leaving Arlington was the Lincoln Memorial. Awesome, powerful.
The Jefferson Memorial had costumed workers.
Sorry....Didn't know it was sideways. But then again...Jefferson did lean to the left.

It rained most of the day, and was a little cold. We left to catch the subway about 3 pm. Got back to the RV, changed our clothes and headed to the Temple. The washington Temple is so beautiful...inside and out. Very, very good day!
