We went to the birthplace of the Prophet Joseph Smith in Vermont. The drive was beautiful. We met Elder Peterson at the visitor's center and he showed us around.
There was a collection of statues on display that depicted scenes from the scriptures. A life size set has been commissioned and will be set at Thanksgiving Point in Utah.
I was really impressed at the emotion that was captured in the faces.
The granite Monument was erected in 1905, the 100th birthday of Joseph Smith. It was 38 1/2 feet tall, one foot for every year of his life.
It was really cold again today with a strong wind blowing. Yesterday it snowed and we could see patches of snow here and there.
We left the Visitors center and headed for a farm that makes cheese and maple syrup. Our GPS sent us down all of the back roads. It was a longer ride, but it was so amazing.
The farms were all so picturesque.

It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup.
We got to taste all of the different syrups, and the cheeses that they make....yum.
Then we continued our drive...I love these covered bridges.
We left Vermont and moved to New York. We are staying in Herkimer, home of the Herkimer Diamond. We got to dig around in the diamond pits and found a few. They are actually a crystal that is naturally faceted.
We also bought a few things in the store. The lady there really liked us...she gave us a really good discount and when we turned in our hammers after working in the pits, she gave us a few larger diamonds so that we could show the grand kids. She said she hoped to see us at the diner later, but Russ has not been feeling well.
This little stream ran through the area of the mines.
This Creek is right behind our RV. I can't believe they call this a creek...it is actually a pretty big river.
We are having a wonderful time on our trip. We feel very blessed that we have this opportunity to travel around the whole country. We have seen so many great and beautiful things and met so many wonderful people. We are very grateful for all that the Lord has created, and for this chance to see so much of it.
